editorial feature : The most famous name in the game, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.

He fought the notorious Conor McGregor in the most talked about showdown in sporting history and he made history doing so wearing Fight Label.

“The most asked question has to be how did we get the gig?”

In a nutshell it was down to Sophie’s hard work, creating a luxury product and when the best recognise the best, it was simple. We made for Floyd back in 2016 when he visited the UK on his victory tour off the back of his 49th fight against Andre Berto, another of our clients. We were asked to present Floyd with a unique piece to welcome him to Sheffield.. What do you give the man who has everything? A pair of boxing shorts with his face on of course!

Emblazoned in Swarovski crystals and completely one-of-a-kind, Floyd adored them and ran around the room saying he was saving these for his 50th fight, the first time he has ever eluded to coming back for the notorious showdown... Little did we know back then what it would lead to.

Fast forward 18 months and the 50th fight is on the cards, Floyd wore the gifted shorts for the pay-per-view promo video against Conor McGregor; so this could only mean one thing - what to do for the actual fight.

Sophie’s moment of inspiration came on a flight over to Las Vegas after sketching different ideas and visualising the fight and how Floyd would want to be seen on his final bout. She thought it would be fitting to immortalise Floyd in his own Million Dollar bill in gold foil leaf on black matte leather shorts with a black python skin waistband.

The Money Fight

Sophie flew out to Vegas for fight week ahead of August 26 2017 with the precious cargo, and it was a week in which everything changed for Fight Label and an unforgettable experience. It was an amazing week working with Floyd, his team and his sponsors. Spending every day with Floyd and his team, in his final days of training at the gym it was somewhat emotional knowing this was the last time.

Working out of a sewing base in Las Vegas we put the finishing touches to the outfit, added leather tassels to Floyd’s boots and the Hublot sponsor patch to the waistband.

The atmosphere in Las Vegas was electric and when Floyd came out in our shorts all the hard work and excitement was overwhelming. We did it, we dressed Floyd for the most famous fight in modern day boxing. Who knows, he may be tempted to do it all over again.
